Arrival of MOUNOUNA FOUTSOU, Minister for Youth and Civic Education, welcomed by the local authorities of the Yaounde 2 district

BINGONO BINGONO, expert in anthropology, was given the floor to speak on the theme of “living together in Cameroon: a guarantee of peace, national unity and national integration“.

the expert began by wishing, in synergy with all those present
long life, prosperity and virility to their majesties the traditional chiefs

He went on to say that living together is a question of family and family is a question of virility. A message against homosexuality, which is an obstacle to the institution of the family.

Bingono then takes us back to ancient times when communities were in conflict, telling us that even in those days people managed to find peaceful solutions to the conflicts that arose.

All the problems we face today were experienced by our ancestors, so there’s no reason why we can’t do the same today.

So he returns to a set of traditional customs and habits, in particular the oath, on which he bases his speech

Why not bring the oath procedure back to the end of the day?

Yaoundé 2 Youth Community Council takes the floor

  • After recalling the aim of living together, the President of the Yaoundé Local Youth Council, Claude BEVOLO MBASSI, presented some grievances to the Minister
  • The setting up of clubs for living together in localities and throughout the country
The appointment of focal points to monitor these clubs

The Honourable Paul Éric DJONGOUE has the floor

He tells us about his experience of living together in the town of Nkonssamba where he grew up.
He uses little anecdotes to show us that the people of Cameroon have never had problems living together, but have always been a people united in their diversity.

Living together is a daily practice and we must be able to pass it on to our neighbours.

The Minister for Youth and Civic Education takes the floor

Before delivering his closing speech, Mounouna Foutsou introduced the traditional civic minute, which on this particular day will consist of a prayer for peace and living together, and for the Almighty to guide all the activities and resolutions taken at these crossroads for living together.

In his speech, after the customary greetings, the Patron of Youth began by thanking the National Commission for Bilingualism and Multiculturalism and the local authorities of the Yaounde 2 district for hosting and organising this activity in their locality.
A special welcome to the resident representative of the United Nations system who is here today.
To all the actors and participants in this activity, he extends his congratulations.

At the end of these local crossroads for living together, whose aim was to create a platform for mixing and promoting living together in Cameroon, and whose summary was made today, we note that this activity, which is part of the civil events organised as a prelude to the celebration of the bank holidays and which is part of the PRONEC REAMORCE intensification, makes us aware of the reality of our diversity, but that our different cultures should not be opposed to each other.

Quoting the President of the Republic in his end-of-year message for 2021, he mentions the ideals of peace and unity advocated by the father of the nation.

It is by remaining united that we are strong

He went on to congratulate the various communities, who had just demonstrated their desire for peace, for living together and for accepting others.

For the community leaders, it’s a question of continuing to raise awareness in our various localities,” he says.

We will now hear from the various traditional chiefs, who are unanimous about the reality of living together in their different communities.

The floor is now open to nationals of brotherly and neighbouring countries Mali, Niger, Chad and many others living in Cameroon.

They all thanked the State of Cameroon for welcoming the foreigners.
Thanks to MINJEC for organising this initiative of local crossroads for living together.
We feel at home with you here in Cameroon

The floor is now given to the resident coordinator of the United Nations system.

After the usual pleasantries, he began by thanking the State of Cameroon and the Minister of Youth and Civic Education for all the actions carried out to promote living together.

No declaration has been made by the United Nations for this year, he told us. Nevertheless, the United Nations continues to encourage all actions in favour of peace and living together, which is why 16 May has been declared International Day for Living Together.
